To any Nurses or Doctors: a question about possible beginning of S/S of diabetes II

To any Nurses or Doctors: a question about possible beginning of S/S of diabetes II?
I know the pathophysiology for the cause of type 2 diabetes mellitus, but I am not sure of this problem one of my friends is having. They have always been pretty healthy, but are currently in school and very busy with school, stress, exams, etc. They have mostly always followed a very healthy diet and used to jog and exercise daily for years and years, but now it is different. To the point, sometimes when they eat alot of sweets, for instance like a cupcake with lots o frosting, their face becomes minorly flushed, and the cheeks feel very hot and slightly tingly. I am aware that wih insulin resistance, and my hypothesis is that the sweet glucose from this cupcake would not be able to get into the cell, and is just in the interstitial spaces, or whatever, and that is what is causing the flushing. Do you think it sounds like the possibility of the beginning of type 2 (insulin resistant) diabetes mellitus? Or because of the strict diet, their body can't adjust to high amts of sugar?

HUH! WHAT THE HECK DID YOU JUST SAY?!

I have never heard of DM II causing people to be flushed when they eat sweets. I guess it may be possible, but the only way to know for sure is to get a urinalysis. If she is in school there are always free clinics or go to student health.

Missed period but not pregnant

missed period but not pregnant ?
ok so i am a Type 2 diabetic and recently my diabetes has been out of control. i was diagnosed with Diabetic Mellitus due to my sugar being so hight, therefore i started to take double medication of my Metformin. I started working out and i started a diet. I started spotting last week about a week early of my period and yet this week no period just yet, it was suppose to come today but nothing. I also had the stomach flu and the doctor prescribed me a medication named Prochlorperazine for the nausea, and i read this medication can alter your menstrual cycle---i dont think i am pregnant but what could be the reason i have not gotten my period? just to play it safe i will take a HPT later today.. please let me know if anyone has any ideas as to why my body is acting all weird.. thanks

It could all be due to you being sick lately. My period was a month and a half late due to a severe UTI and Kidney stones. When you are sick your body focuses on getting you well and everything else shuts down( your period) I would wait until 1st thing in the morning to take an HPT though. If its still late next week make an appointment with your Dr.

What's so bad about guns

What's so bad about guns?

There is NOTHING wrong with guns.
2 :
I'm with you for banning lethargy, especially the lethargic who wear tight clothing :) We should also ban gun control laws.
3 :
The personal possession of a firearm is a "right" that empowers the invidual. The left wants a 'collective" to have the power not the individual. Thus the "problem" with firearms.
4 :
I know criminals hate them...it's that self-defense thing. ;)
5 :
There's nothing wrong with guns. What's bad is allowing people who aren't mature enough to handle guns properly to have them.
6 :
I dont see a problem.
7 :
Taking guns away will only take them away from people trying to protect themselves too. The killers don't care if gun laws exist or don't. The only thing wrong with them are stupid people.
8 :
I say we start at the top of the list with bans. When that one is complete ,we can work our way down. NO MORE HEART ATTACKS!!! come on people, say it with me... down with heart attacks!!
9 :
I think you're kind of missing the point here. All these thing you mention are results of accidental or unavoidable deaths, with the exception of nicotine, which would be by choice of the individual. Deaths from guns are deaths that are, far more often than not, deliberate acts inflicted by disturbed individuals on innocent and most often unsuspecting victims. I honestly don't see how you can compare here. As far as deaths by automobiles, the numbers don't add up either. Consider for a moment the number of individuals in this country that own and operate an automobile on a daily basis. The numbers would probably be in the tens of millions. Now consider how many people own and use guns on a regular basis. It would only make sense that there would be a higher mortality rate for automobiles. Also keep in mind that all the things you mentioned are things that we as a society are working at reducing as well, finding cures for ailments and increasing safety on the roads. I think you're comparing apples and oranges here.

PANCREAS CANCER! Please read now......................

PANCREAS CANCER! Please read now......................!?
For the past 2 months my Grandma in the Philippines is suffering from Pancreas Cancer and I am very sad that she is in stage 4. It has been two years since we last hugged each other I am just wondering, what is the cause of her disease? I look at wiki but I don't know which one: Age (particularly over 60)[2] Male gender African-American ethnicity[2] Smoking. Cigarette smoking nearly doubles one's risk, and the risk persists for at least a decade after quitting. [5] Diets low in vegetables and fruits[citation needed] Diets high in red meat[6] Obesity[7] Diabetes mellitus Chronic pancreatitis has been linked, but is not known to be causal Helicobacter pylori infection Family history, 5-10% of pancreatic cancer patients have a family history of pancreatic cancer. The genes responsible for most of this clustering in families have yet to be identified. Pancreatic cancer has been associated with the following syndromes; autosomal recessive ataxia-telangiectasia and autosomal dominantly inherited mutations in the BRCA2 gene, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome due to mutations in the STK11 tumor suppressor gene, hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer (Lynch syndrome), familial adenomatous polyposis, and the familial atypical multiple mole melanoma-pancreatic cancer syndrome (FAMMM-PC) due to mutations in the CDKN2A tumor suppressor gene.[8][1] Gingivitis or periodontal disease.[9] Alcohol might be a risk factor – see Pancreatic cancer section in Alcohol and cancer When I lived with her for a decade, she did not qualify to all the things that I listed above EXCEPT she is 74 years old OR maybe she ate dirty foods. Please pray for my grandma because she has 3 months to live.

It is not possible to determine the exact cause for most cancers. The risk factors that you have listed are correlations, not causes. What this means is that we know the risk factor and the disease are linked, but not that one causes another. When we figure out the specific mechanism that causes a cancer, we are well on the way to finding a cure. We are just not there yet with most cancers.

Just some help, what NOT to feed your dog.

Just some help, what NOT to feed your dog.?
s to avoid Reasons to avoid Alcoholic beverages Can cause intoxication, coma, and death. Baby food Can contain onion powder, which can be toxic to dogs. (Please see onion below.) Can also result in nutritional deficiencies, if fed in large amounts. Bones from fish, poultry, or other meat sources Can cause obstruction or laceration of the digestive system. Cat food Generally too high in protein and fats. Chocolate, coffee, tea, and other caffeine Contain caffeine, theobromine, or theophylline, which can be toxic and affect the heart and nervous systems. Citrus oil extracts Can cause vomiting. Fat trimmings Can cause pancreatitis. Grapes and raisins Contain an unknown toxin, which can damage the kidneys. There have been no problems associated with grape seed extract. Hops Unknown compound causes panting, increased heart rate, elevated temperature, seizures, and death. Human vitamin supplements containing iron Can damage the lining of the digestive system and be toxic to the other organs including the liver and kidneys. Large amounts of liver Can cause Vitamin A toxicity, which affects muscles and bones. Macadamia nuts Contain an unknown toxin, which can affect the digestive and nervous systems and muscle. Marijuana Can depress the nervous system, cause vomiting, and changes in the heart rate. Milk and other dairy products Some adult dogs and cats do not have sufficient amounts of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down the lactose in milk. This can result in diarrhea. Lactose-free milk products are available for pets. Moldy or spoiled food, garbage Can contain multiple toxins causing vomiting and diarrhea and can also affect other organs. Mushrooms Can contain toxins, which may affect multiple systems in the body, cause shock, and result in death. Onions and garlic (raw, cooked, or powder) Contain sulfoxides and disulfides, which can damage red blood cells and cause anemia. Cats are more susceptible than dogs. Garlic is less toxic than onions. Persimmons Seeds can cause intestinal obstruction and enteritis. Pits from peaches and plums Can cause obstruction of the digestive tract. Potato, rhubarb, and tomato leaves; potato and tomato stems Contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems. This is more of a problem in livestock. Raw eggs Contain an enzyme called avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin (a B vitamin). This can lead to skin and hair coat problems. Raw eggs may also contain Salmonella. Raw fish Can result in a thiamine (a B vitamin) deficiency leading to loss of appetite, seizures, and in severe cases, death. More common if raw fish is fed regularly. Salt If eaten in large quantities it may lead to electrolyte imbalances. String Can become trapped in the digestive system; called a "string foreign body." Sugary foods Can lead to obesity, dental problems, and possibly diabetes mellitus. Table scraps (in large amounts) Table scraps are not nutritionally balanced. They should never be more than 10% of the diet. Fat should be trimmed from meat; bones should not be fed. Tobacco Contains nicotine, which affects the digestive and nervous systems. Can result in rapid heart beat, collapse, coma, and death. Yeast dough Can expand and produce gas in the digestive system, causing pain and possible rupture of the stomach or intestines.

Does milk really suck? Or is it nutritional

Does milk really suck? Or is it nutritional?
We are the only mammals besides cats who drink milk after infancy. The odd thing is that after infancy, instead of continuing drinking our others milk, we drink cow milk. On milksucks.com it tells you how keeping your bones strong are easier than you think, and milk isn't required to do the job. In fact, there is an article on why milk and dairy products WON'T help you maintain healthy bones. Got Breast Cancer? Milksucks.com says this: Consuming dairy products is linked to an increased risk for breast cancer because dairy products are high in fat, animal protein, and hormones, each of which increases cancer risk. Since the 1980’s, study after study has linked dairy consumption to a high incidence of breast and other cancers. Women seeking to minimize their chances of breast cancer should avoid milk, other dairy products, and meat." What about heart disease? Milksucks.com says: Since the early 1970s, study after study after study has implicated cow's milk and other dairy products as a cause of heart disease and clogged arteries. One researcher, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn from the Cleveland Clinic (the top-rated heart clinic in the U.S.), makes people "heart attack-proof" by putting them on a vegan diet (check out his groundbreaking paper in the American Journal of Cardiology, August 99). Do you or your teens have acne? Will drinking milk make you greasy, grimy, and pimply? Some doctors suspect that the fat, animal protein, sugar, and hormones in milk irritate the skin, causing break-outs. Dr. Jerome K. Fisher conducted a clinical study of 1,088 teen-age patients over 10 years and reported to the American Dermatological Association that milk was a principal contributor to some patients' acne. Dr. Fisher found that their acne tapered off as their milk consumption did. Are your kids sick? Cow's milk is the number one source of allergies in children, and research links consumption of dairy products, including cow's milk, to colic (stomach cramps), autism, chronic ear infections, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (type 1 or "juvenile-onset" diabetes), acne, obesity, flatulence, constipation, mucus, and a variety of other ailments. So the question is: Is milk as good as we think it is?
