Missed period but not pregnant

missed period but not pregnant ?
ok so i am a Type 2 diabetic and recently my diabetes has been out of control. i was diagnosed with Diabetic Mellitus due to my sugar being so hight, therefore i started to take double medication of my Metformin. I started working out and i started a diet. I started spotting last week about a week early of my period and yet this week no period just yet, it was suppose to come today but nothing. I also had the stomach flu and the doctor prescribed me a medication named Prochlorperazine for the nausea, and i read this medication can alter your menstrual cycle---i dont think i am pregnant but what could be the reason i have not gotten my period? just to play it safe i will take a HPT later today.. please let me know if anyone has any ideas as to why my body is acting all weird.. thanks

It could all be due to you being sick lately. My period was a month and a half late due to a severe UTI and Kidney stones. When you are sick your body focuses on getting you well and everything else shuts down( your period) I would wait until 1st thing in the morning to take an HPT though. If its still late next week make an appointment with your Dr.

Umm ... B may be a type 1. Did "B" take insulin with their meal? What kind? It seems to me that a type 2's insulin would be released more quickly (since their pancreas still produces) so the sugars wouldn't peak that high that fast. Those numbers look like something my daughter would get ... though if she's at 279 at the end of 2 hours then she's not getting enough insulin. This is my totally uneducated opinion :o) I'm not sure you're going to find anyone in this forum that can help you with your homework. --edit-- Mr Peachy, a type 1 does eventually come back down without insulin. The sugar comes out with their urine, that's why there's increased urination and thirst. It just doesn't come down fast enough, and usually not far enough.
2 :
Could be type two since the numbers seem to be coming back down. Not enough info to tell for sure. If the patient were a type one and wasn't treated, it would probably continue upward. The reason is, a type two produces insulin which, despite it not working all that well, will eventually bring the glucose levels down. An untreated type one has no insulin to bring the levels back to normal. Either way, this patient needs help.
3 :
You will need to know this if you are to work with diabetics. You must really understand what you are learning. B is a Type 1 because: -The very high sustained elevated blood glucose readings. -Positive urine ketones -Low insulin levels. Research autoimmune Type 1 diabetes to learn WHY this occurs, and how it is different from Type 2 diabetes.

Can I become a private pilot

Can I become a private pilot?
I am 16, have 20/20 vision (I had eye surgery to get intraocular lens transplants, no side effects, no glare issues, perfect vision all around) and have hypothyroidism (perfectly controlled with synthroid) and have IDDM (insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) that is controlled with 2 types of injected insulin. I live in Connecticut and want to begin training to obtain my private pilots license. Will these conditions keep me grounded? And if so, can a get a waiver for them? Thanks everyone.

I'm glad you love your horse named Nick. As for your question, I would keep horseback riding because you will not be able to pass your 3rd class medical exam with IDDM or hypothyroidism right off the bat. You would need to get a special issuance waiver for both conditions. I don't see your vision history as being a problem. FAR 67.313 under the FAA medical requirements state: The general medical standards for a third-class airman medical certificate are: (a) No established medical history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes mellitus that requires insulin or any other hypoglycemic drug for control. (b) No other organic, functional, or structural disease, defect, or limitation that the Federal Air Surgeon, based on the case history and appropriate, qualified medical judgment relating to the condition involved, finds -- (1) Makes the person unable to safely perform the duties or exercise the privileges of the airman certificate applied for or held; or (2) May reasonably be expected, for the maximum duration of the airman medical certificate applied for or held, to make the person unable to perform those duties or exercise those privileges. (c) No medication or other treatment that the Federal Air Surgeon, based on the case history and appropriate, qualified medical judgment relating to the medication or other treatment involved, finds -- (1) Makes the person unable to safely perform the duties or exercise the privileges of the airman certificate applied for or held; or (2) May reasonably be expected, for the maximum duration of the airman medical certificate applied for or held, to make the person unable to perform those duties or exercise those privileges. Regarding procuring a waiver for mellitus, a medical history or diagnosis of diabetes mellitus requiring insulin or other hypoglycemic drugs for control are disqualifying, but it may be possible to get a waiver (special issuance). The AME can help expedite the FAA review by assisting you in gathering medical records and submitting a current specialty report. You also will need a special issuance waiver for your hypothyroidism. The AME may issue an airman medical certificate if you are euthyroid, stable, and do not have other organ system involvement. The AME must document the period of stability, laboratory evidence of euthyroid state and absence of other organ system of the FAA Form 8500-8.

Apply for a Student Lic.... it's a Medical... You'll find out real quick if you qualify . . Gotta Fly... Mike & "Jaz" the Flying Dog . . .
4 :
With insulin dependent diabetes, you cannot get a medical, so you can't become a private pilot. However, a Sport Pilot certificate requires no medical, provided you have not actually failed an aviation medical exam and have a state issued drivers license (the presumption being that if the state considers you fit to drive, you're fit to fly a light-sport aircraft. However, you will be limited to flying aircraft with no more than two seats, with some speed and other limitations. Don't even try to get a medical, since if you fail it (and you will) you can't even fly as a Sport Pilot. If you're training for SP, you can get a student pilot certificate that doesn't include a medical. Part of the SP no medical thing is that you self certify that you're fit to fly, which is between you and your conscience. Otherwise, your only option will be to fly ultralights, which are also a lot of fun, but single seat only and even more limitations (along with some freedoms that licensed pilots _don't_ have).
5 :
Of course you can, i think these conditions are enough to become a private pilot. Hope for the best and all the best from my side.

Could diabetes ever be an advantage in an environment

Could diabetes ever be an advantage in an environment?
Could it? Diabetes is generally this, skip it if you know what it is. Diabetes mellitus (IPA: /ˌdaɪəˈbiːtiːz/ or /ˌdaɪəˈbiːtəs/, /məˈlaɪtəs/ or /ˈmɛlətəs/), often referred to simply as diabetes (Ancient Greek: διαβαίνειν "to pass through"), is a syndrome of disordered metabolism, usually due to a combination of hereditary and environmental causes, resulting in abnormally high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia).[2] Blood glucose levels are controlled by a complex interaction of multiple chemicals and hormones in the body, including the hormone insulin made in the beta cells of the pancreas. Diabetes mellitus refers to the group of diseases that lead to high blood glucose levels due to defects in either insulin secretion or insulin action. [3] Diabetes develops due to a diminished production of insulin (in type 1) or resistance to its effects (in type 2 and gestational).[4] Both lead to hyperglycaemia, which largely causes the acute signs of diabetes: excessive urine production, resulting compensatory thirst and increased fluid intake, blurred vision, unexplained weight loss, lethargy, and changes in energy metabolism. Monogenic forms, e.g. MODY, constitute 1-5 % of all cases. So now lets say there's an organism that is in a low sugar environment, could it be a good thing?

I am diabetic and have recently had to start insulin. I don't think there is any advantages to having diabetes. It is frustrating most of the time and I hate being diabetic.
2 :
Well the classic answer is (or at least used to be) that if your ancient ancestors lived in times of feast or famine, having higher blood sugar would tide them over for a few days till they ate next. Then it got out of hand (evolutionarily) so it became fatal if untreated (at least Type I). Since 1921 we've been working against evolution by giving ourselves insulin so we can grow up and have kids, perpetuating the genes.

Help With My Human Anatomy Case Study

Help With My Human Anatomy Case Study? ?
A 21 year old noncompliant male with a history of type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus was found in a coma. His blood glucose was high, as well as his urine glucose, urine ketones, and serum ketones. His serum bicarbonate was <12 mEq/L. His respiration was exaggerated and his breath had an acetone odor. His blood pressure was 90/60 and his pulse weak and rapid. 1. Is this person experiencing ketoacidosis or insulin shock? Explain your answer. 2. Why is the serum bicarbonate low? 3. What is the acid-base status of this individual? 4. What is the cause of the dyspnea, hypotension, and tachycardia? 5. What type of treatment does this person need? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This assignment is due in the morning.
